Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, with a Concentration in Biomedical Sciences
Program Description
The Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences with a concentration in Biomedical Sciences prepares students for diverse careers in healthcare, clinical fields, research, and biotechnology. This concentration provides a strong foundation for those interested in pursuing advanced studies, including Medical Laboratory Science, and careers in research laboratories, public health organizations, various clinical settings, and the biotechnology industry. Students will gain in-depth knowledge of human biology, disease mechanisms, and the scientific principles underlying health and illness. Like the other concentrations in Health Sciences, students will gain knowledge about public, community, and individual health to gain holistic and applicable knowledge of health care.
Additional Academic Recommendations
Students must earn a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in all Health Sciences (HSC) required coursework. It is recommended that all coursework be completed with a C or higher.
During the program, students will complete Service Learning in Health Sciences, a community engagement course, requiring students to gain real-world experience in the region. Students are expected to collaborate with the course instructor to find a site based on their professional goals and should refer to the website for additional information: https://healthscience.iusb.edu/internships.html. Enrollment in this course will require students to pay for a background check, supply evidence of CPR certification, and complete additional compliance requirements.
Students should refer to the program handbook for detailed academic policies, ensuring compliance with program requirements and standards (i.e. GPA requirements, program dismissal, reinstatement, etc.).
